My work often starts with an idea which I might over time approach from several different minds. I am challenged by the possibility of working this idea in a variety of painting styles, moving from fairly realistic to abstract. I love this part of the process which is developed or defined by different paint applications combined with patterning, scraping, loose gesture, and charcoal drawing. This is an intuitive thing and allows me to continue to search and experiment.

I am drawn to capturing a moment or telling part of a story, thus my paintings often have some suggestion of human involvement. To support my feelings for the moment to be captured, I try to create a bit of an “edge” in the content by using a variety of medium and technique to provide needed tension.

Always my process involves developing a balanced canvas that has emotional impact whether it be recognizable landscape, nature study, figurative study or abstraction.
